Egypt is bordered by Israel, Sudan, and Libya, as well as the Red and Mediterranean Seas. The Nile River runs through the country and has been a prominent geographical feature for centuries.

The majority of Egyptians are Muslim, with a small percentage of the population practicing Christianity and an even smaller percentage are Jewish.

Brief History:
From as early as 4000 B.C. organized societies have been found in Egypt. The Nile played a large role in the formation of these societies. Under the Pharaoh, Ancient Egypt became a thriving place to live. Architecture, such as the pyramids, a writing system, called hieroglyphics, and an irrigation system were all developed during this time period. Trade was also established with other empires, including the Greek, Romans, Turks, and French. Because of this a rich culture was formed.
The Ancient Egypt civilization began to deteriorate and in 1882 came under British rule. The country remained under British rule until 1952 Revoltuion, which was led by the Egyptian middle class. The first presidential election was held in 1956. Despite efforts by the first president, Gamal Abdal Nasser, and following presidents to industrialize the country, political unrest in the Middle East has hampered progress.
Today, Egypt is one of the most populated and advanced nation in the Middle East. Egypt is active in the League of Arab States, as well as the Organization of African Unity. Most of the Egyptian population are rural laborers or factory workers. The population is comprised of intellectuals, government officials, urban businessmen, landowners.
